As part of a protest group against nuclear energy, Ronnie Raymond was caught in a terrorist attack on a nuclear plant with Professor Martin Stein. Caught in a nuclear blast, Ronnie and Stein would become connected to the Firestorm Matrix, an energy source connected to the Heat, the fire elementals of Earth, becoming the superhero Firestorm, with Ronnie as the body and Professor Stein as the mind. Having died then come back to life, Ronnie now is partnered with fellow Firestorm Matrix user Jason Rusch, as he uses his powers of transmutation and flight to fight evil.
