set in 1838, as a child, Jonah Hex was sold into slavery to an apache tribe by his alcoholic father. He grew to become respected within the tribe and fell in love with White Fawn, a girl within the tribe. He eventually won his freedom but chose to remain with White Fawn and became a true member of the tribe. Then him and his adopted brother Noh-Tante are sent on a raid to prove themselves as true warriors and enter manhood. Noh-Tante betrays Jonah on their mission knocking him unconscious and leaving him for dead. When he returned to the tribe he claimed that Jonah was killed and he married White Fawn. When Jonah woke up he kept going on his mission and killed every member of the Kiowa tribe, by himself. As he wandered he was found by confederate soldiers and drafted into the Civil War becoming a very feared soldier amongst the army. When he discovers that he is fighting for the right to own slaves he slaughters his company and general and went home to the tribe. After years away he tells the tribe of what had happened to him and challenged Noh-Tante, when his axe is sabotaged he jabs him in the through with a knife. Due to breaking the rules, but unable to kill his son, the chief brands him with the mark of the demon, burning his face with a red hot tomahawk and banishes him from the tribe forever.
