Synopsis

Wuthering Heights is a novel by Emily Brontë published in 1847 under her pseudonym "Ellis Bell". Brontë's only finished novel, it was written between October 1845 and June 1846.

Description of Heathcliff:

Heathcliff is arguably the primary villain of the novel Wuthering Heights. Taken in as an orphan by Mr Earnshaw, he is bullied and mistreated by the eldest son Hindley. After overhearing and misunderstanding a comment from Cathy, he ran away, returning years later as a wealthy man and enacting a plot to ruin both the Earnshaw and Linton families and claim their estates as his own. Heathcliff is described as 'dark' in the book and variously as a 'gypsy' and 'Lascar' (Indian sailor), and has been played in film by a range of actors from Tom Hardy to James Howson.
