Intended as a humorous inversion of an ideal 20th century family, they are a clan of wealthy, aristocratic eccentrics who delight in the macabre and are either blissfully unaware or do not care that mainstream society finds them unusual or frightening. Description of Thing T. Thing:

A disembodied hand who lives in the Addams Family's house and helps out in various capacities such as fetching the mail, lighting Gomez's cigars, holding Morticia's wool while she knits, and turning over records on the phonograph. Thing cannot talk, but it does sometimes snap its fingers to attract attention, and is also able to communicate by signaling in Morse code, writing, or with the help of the manual alphabet.
