Five Nights at Freddy's: Apocalypse Squad is a 2022 American dystopian science fiction action film directed by Neill Blomkamp, written by George Miller and produced by Guillermo del Toro. It is a spin-off to the horror game franchise Five Nights at Freddy's, set in a dystopian future of the year 2065. The film features an ensemble cast including Jason Momoa, Malin Åkerman, Anthony Mackie, Mel Gibson, Eva Green, and Olivia Munn as the Apocalypse Squad, alongside Jeff Goldblum, Hugh Jackman, Keith David, and John Boyega. Apocalypse Squad premiered in Los Angeles on February 4th, 2022 and was released on February 26th, 2022. The film received largely positive reviews, with critics praising the tone, performances (particularly Momoa, Åkerman and Green), screenplay, realistic visual effects, direction, cinematography, musical score, action sequences and emotional depth. Considered one of the greatest action films of all time and one of the best of the 2020s, it was nominated for 6 Saturn Awards which included Best Picture, Best Director, Best Visual Effects, Best Screenplay, Best On-screen Couple (Momoa and Åkerman) and Best Actress for Green. It was also a huge financial box-office success, grossing $590 million against a budget of $465 million. A sequel, Battle Sands, was released on March 26th 2024.
