A Chinese man hired onto Temeraire’s crew who cooks for the dragons and the crew. He assists Dragon Surgeon Keynes in finding the cure for the dragon plague. He serves as a cook on Temeraire and in the Allegiance after their return from China, and becomes a central part of the crew. He is loyal, smart, and surprisingly sarcastic, often cajoling dragons into eating with his steady nature, inventive mind, and his ability to turn anything (literally anything) into an edible meal. Over time, he learns more English and Laurence becomes steadily more fluent in Chinese, and they become something like good friends.
