Robotnik had no idea that two of the seven legendary Chaos Emeralds, the gemstones he and Sonic have been collecting all this time, were on Earth, his birthplanet! It's verbally explained by him that he actually was a famed doctor hailing from an ancestry of excellence, tied directly to his grandfather Gerald. But after selling his weapons to the Russians for money and glory during the Cold War, he had been declared a war criminal and a maniac (both which describe him to a T.) So, he built a rocket that landed him on Mobius. He is xenoracist, or racist for aliens, so that explains why he hates Mobius and its people so much. Hopefully, collecting the Emeralds, regaining the trust of Earth, and the creation of Scratch and Grounder could help in Mobius' destruction.
