Helping the Teen Titans against a gang called the Hell Hawks, Mal Duncan was recruited into the team, but felt he wasn't much help until he became the second Guardian. After accidentally freeing the Gargoyle, formerly Mr. Twister and resealing him, Mal found the plans for a device called Gabriel's Horn, taking on the name Hornblower, later working it to Herald. Though he would marry Karen Beecher, aka Bumblebee, Mal would suffer a bad wound with Gabriel's Horn grafted onto him, becoming Vox. After some months apart from Karen, Mal has been healed with his voice back, as well as superpowers to open up warps as well as sound manipulation as he joins Karen in Arsenal's new Titans.
