Fear is something Jessica Cruz is familiar with. She was on a hunting trip with her friends and unfortunately came across mobsters who were burying a body, leading to her friends being killed while she escaped. She hid for years, but eventually came out to testify against them when she saw them. Though suffering from her PTSD and anxiety, Jessica's ability to overcome her fears have led her to be chosen as a Green Lantern, surprising her, but leading her to be trained by Simon Baz, learning that courage isn't always being fearless, it's being brave when it counts.
