In simple terms, a zombie is a corpse which has been re-animated. While the term 'zombie' originates in Haitian culture, there are older examples of these creatures in European folklore as well, known as revenants. Revenant zombies are usually more aware than the typical undead, and often return due to a sense of 'unfinished business', much as a ghost would. Liches, on the other hand, are essentially ZOMBIE WIZARDS. Seriously, how cool is that?
