Eustace Chapuys was a Savoyard diplomat who served Charles V as Imperial ambassador to England from 1529 until 1545 and is best known for his extensive and detailed correspondence. Apart from Cromwell, whom he came to consider a friend, Chapuys cultivated religiously conservative noblemen in the king's court as his informants. He was fiercely loyal to Catherine of Aragon, and to her daughter Mary I. Eustace Chapuys died on 21 January 1556 and was buried in the chapel of the College of Savoy.
